Year of the Water Dragon: The Case of the Zodiac Misperception!

I haven’t been the least bit shy about asking people, now that the  Water Dragon New Year has begun, about their Chinese astrology signs.  My dental hygienist was close to tears when she whispered that she was a rooster.  “I don’t feel like a rooster — they’re so noisy.”  As she quietly set up her tools for her work,  I could sense her deep distress, and with a touch of compassion that’s believed to come with being a  Water Dragon,  I attempted to calm the stage before the dental scaling  was set to begin.  I humbly held back my proud declaration of Water Dragonhood and said I didn’t know very much about roosters but that I was sure that if she was one — and then suddenly, true dragon-style, I asked her right out when she was born.  You know, of course, that Chinese New Year is the only time of the year when you can ask someone that question — which is how I’ve come to know exactly how old my dentist, grocery store manager, and no-longer-a-rooster hygienist are.  Once a captive of  distressing zodiac misperception, my rooster, it was revealed, was not a fowl but a fellow Water Dragon!  Liberated from her feathers to the coveted zodiac of the year, and just in time to celebrate!   As she gently eradicated my menacing plaque deposits, a watery dragonesque aura filled the room.   A room of hopeful water dragons awaiting a new year!
