Dear, dear Nakki — you’ve done it again!

Daddy     You see Nakki was one of my father’s tried and true and ever so talented photo buddies who helped me make sure that after my father died (see my November 2012 tribute entry) his legacy would be sustained.  Yes, Nakki Goranin and Brian Wallis are the reasons why George Gilbert’s photos and memorabilia are now housed in the International Center of Photography in NYC. No better home for a Photo League photographer’s collection on the planet! I’ve thanked them once, twice and never enough times!

Since I began overseeing my father’s estate, I’ve received permission requests to show his famous Paul Strand portrait (it rests in the New York Public Library) from the wonderful art museum in Philly for their not so long ago Strand exhibit, as well as a major museum in Madrid. And there’s a gorgeous new book that Yale published earlier this year about Strand, and my dad’s portrait of Strand is prominently featured there, too. How fortunate I was to receive two complimentary copies in exchange for a quick signature!  One copy’s now in our living room … and I gave Nakki the other one.

The other day, Nakki, a truly gifted photographer and family friend now, notified me about a great piece of historic research annotated from a book my father wrote years ago. Presto –from his typewriter to the web!  And Nakki found it!  Thank you, once again! I can feel my father’s joy.
